Protecting the Environment
Our policy is to recycle as much of the hotel waste as the local facilities allow. Our staff also separate bottles, cans and papers collected from rooms, and with the co-operation of our guests, towels are only changed on request. We take the obvious steps like using energy saving lamps where possible and are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact.
We have now written a Visitor charter that is included in all our room welcome folders. This aims to encourage our guests to consider how they can minimise the environmental impact of their stay in our hotel and Cornwall.
Visitor charter
5 ways to be the best sort of visitor
Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have some impact on the environment and community. By making positive choices during your visit, you can help to look after Cornwall ensuring that it retains everything that is special about it for your next visit.
-
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
In Cornwall we take recycling very seriously, so please say no to packaging where possible, especially plastic bags. Recycle all you can; the recycling bank in the Tourist Information Centre car park accepts glass, tins, plastic bottles, cardboard and paper while plastic bags can be recycled at the local supermarkets. In the hotel we try to recycle bottles, cans and papers collected from rooms, please help us by by leaving them in a suitable condition.
-
Walk, cycle or use public transport.
Walking and cycling are great ways to see the area without increasing pollution or traffic. Use public transport if you can, but try exploring the local area - there are some glorious places to see and interesting things to do without getting in your car. [Please ask for details of the local attractions]
-
Stay local, eat local, buy local, see local.
Support local producers and services - this way your visit has a real benefit to the communities of Cornwall; and you get to see and taste the real quality that Cornwall offers. Try visiting farmers markets, farm shops, village stores, pubs and cafes. Much of our distinctive culture is evident in the hundreds of community events that happen throughout the year and are well worth supporting. [Please ask for details of the local attractions]
-
Chill out – switch off….
Switch off lights when you leave your room, and in winter turn the heating down. If you do not need fresh towels then please leave them on the towel rail; we will only launder towels that are left in the bath or shower.
-
Follow the Countryside Code.
The Countryside Code reminds visitors to protect plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; consider other people and users when visiting the countryside.
Enjoy your stay! Thank you!
